Poem: Dread

Paralyzed by fear

I find an itch on my sole, in my spirit

a scratching post, finding the unavoidable

injustices everywhere, swatting at gnats

rendered irksome by its endless,

summit-less kill count, a crushing toll

mounting up in my dreams, cresting the hill

of existence, I hope

but I don’t think it’s enough

necessarily.
